Courses with Inspire Learning – Book Making

I’m teaching some shott courses in book making these can be used to make Journals, or develop your papercraft skills

Junk Journaling

You might be asking What is a Junk Journal?

Junk Journal: A book which is often made through found and recycled materials to be used as a way to collect and record memories, thoughts, ideas, and inspiration.

Over the course we make some journals from found objects (if you haven’t got the items in the materials require – think of alternatives), one of these will be from old hard-back book, as there are many books that go to landfill each year, so in this course will be using some of them to give them a second life (please choose books you do not want to read again and not current library books).

 We look at several methods of creating pages with interactive elements

 Learners will need to provide their own materials for the sessions;

  • Old unwanted books – hardbacks and paperbacks, glue, are the main items

Junk journals and altered books can be used for Art Journals, memory books or just a way to use some of your papercrafts products.

What will be covered on the course?

  • Within the course learners will gain an understanding of the need to give items second life; and benefits of crafting with reclaim items.  And how junk journals and alternated books are great for Memory keeping or art journaling.  We will cover some terminology used in Journal making and book binding, such as belly band, pockets, tags, tuck spots.
  • We also look at ways of decorating your books and develop your Paper crafting skills, and use of inks, stencils, stamps & collaging etc.
